Metaphors in learning and doing physics

Clearly, metaphors are ubiquitous in physics. But what distinct roles do metaphors actually play in processes of doing, learning, and teaching physics? Together with Rubén Sampieri-Cábal I have tried to answer this question. In our latest book chapter, "The Many Roles of Metaphors in Learning and Doing Physics," we dive into the intersection of embodied cognition, physics education research, and the history and philosophy of science to explore the different roles metaphors play in physics and physics education.
